Adjusting, adjusting, adjusting.
I consider myself somewhat of a seamstress. I've taken quite a few classes on different sewing applications and techniques and skills. Adjusting isn't new to me. Adjusting is a good thing. Learning how to adjust a sewing machine or serger to match your project type is a good thing. Adjusting a pattern piece so that it fits the body correctly is a good thing. Adjusting to a new advanced sewing technique that makes a garment look haute couture or bridge instead of budget or even low end is a GREAT thing. Adjusting makes all the difference between "homemade" and "handmade."Adjustment is good.
So why is it so bloomin' painful when it comes to bringing another baby home? To this I say, "Blimey, oy vey, and woot woot to the mothers who can do it successfully, because right now I'm really in awe--I'm leaning more on the side of locking Kaia in a closet and digging myself a hole to live in for the next month!"
So here's how this week has gone so far (I'm pretty sure I have these events in the right order…):
Monday: We're still on the biliblanket…Another round of doctor appointments. Kaia loves to help feed Morgan. I pump once or twice a day to let Kaia and Steven have a turn. When I do nurse him the rest of the time, Kaia seems pretty confused why she can't help out…
We actually had a bonafide successful FHE after a long hiatus. Woot woot.
I had just gotten out of the shower, please excuse the grungy look I'm sporting!
He is pretty grouchy about sleeping on the biliblanket all of the time…after it warms up a little, then he's begrudged a little bit less than before.
Tuesday: Kaia was trying to sit on my birthing ball and slipped, fell forward, and cut the bridge of her nose on the edge of a shelf. It was--to say the least--a little difficult applying a bandage to the site of trauma. As you can see, it couldn't be accomplished…Thank goodness it didn't need stitches. I seriously hate doctor appointments right now.
There you have it folks. My little fashionista. No, it's not a snow suit! It's a parka with tails. She's going for a formal snow bunny look.
Thursday: I am desperately racing the clock to get all of my homework in for my classes. I think there are three things that wait for no one: death, professors of online classes, and newborns. This is how we roll, apparently.
Morgan's belly button/umbilical cord started smelling like death--and looking like it--yuck! I had forgotten to get goldenseal caplets again…took him in to the doctors again to have them look at it and make sure it's not an umbilical cord infection. They said to watch it closely and to not put anything on it. Cassie was a sweetie and let us have some of the goldenseal caplets she had. I sprinkled the powder on (it fell off a day and a half later). The doctors told me it would probably come off at the beginning of next week. Boo yah that, doctors!
I again look like a "mummy" in all my grungy glory. I will look cute again, I will look cute again, I will look cute again.
The good news is that I am in better shape now than I have been since pre-Kaia. I have abs and all my clothes are too big. Woot woot breastfeeding.
Steven thought it necessary to document my fine multi-tasking skills...
Morgan insists on snuggling right up underneath my chin. I love this!
Friday:
Steven and I had a date night! It consisted of sitting on our bed watching an episode and eating a plate of brownies, cookies, and pumpkin rolls (thank you, Rose…!) while completely ignoring the phone, email, and our squawking kids for an episode of Big Bang Theory and The Mentalist.
Saturday:
Had another bilirubin check, another doctor appointment. It went down! He's doing much better! No more appointments until…next wednesday for his 2 week check up! Oh boy...
More homework.
Kaia woke up with a cough. She's living it up in her bedroom, watching movie after movie after movie, taking naps, playing tea party, and getting into the diapering stuff.
Morgan opens his eyes a lot more. He's such a charmer. I love watching him laugh while he's napping. I will try to catch it on our camera!

Life wasn't so bad after Kaia got a snow suit and snow boots from Grandma "Hatkiss" (she can't say Haskett yet…) and a book in the mail. She kept running to the front window to see of the "snow mens" were here yet (she thinks that snow men happen before snow…). I told Kaia to try on her new snow suit while I was trying to get something done in the kitchen. I thought this would preoccupy her for a few minutes since it involved attached pants…it took her less than three blinks to try it on:

Wednesday: Another bilirubin check, another doctor appointment. It went back up. Ugh. They did say that I don't need to worry about using the biliblanket any more, though. I ignored this and put him on it during naps. It is much nicer to hold him and nurse him minus the tail.
Morgan is patiently waiting to be snuggled while Steven does Kaia's hair. (It is so embarrassing that Steven does better pony tails than I do…)
He's a pro at it, really.

Sunday:
Kaia is so sick of being in her room. I think that she's tired of having too much of a good thing. She sounds a lot better tonight. Maybe I have been able to stop this cold dead in its tracks before spreading to the rest of us!
Morgan has had a bit of a nasty diaper rash this week. (Drat my dominant sensitive skin genes! URGH! My poor children!)
I have found that he sleeps a REALLY long time if I situate him like this (he is CLOSELY supervised):
Steven and Morgan are enjoying the "manly bonding" (5 gold stars to whoever can name the movie). |
Yay for Sunday naps. I never get them...
