Drenched, Pickled, and Sprayed...

Kaia is so funny....she wants to do everything mom does. This includes wiping down the table, the chairs, the high chair, the front of the stove and dishwasher....

But there's NO WAY I trust her around store-bought cleaners...who knows what chemicals are in them! She's curious and mischievous and stubborn...I'm thinking it would not end well. Plus, she's got the momma's curse: eczema and really sensitive skin. I know that store bought cleaners hurt my hands, so I started to research what cleaners I could make at home from ingredients you might normally find in your pantry and medicine closet. I found a few different recipes, but I decided I would experiment.

For the last four months, I've been saving any and all citrus peels. I store them in the freezer until I have enough peels to do a big batch (which actually happens pretty quickly)...I fill a canning jar with the peels (grapefruit, clementines, naval oranges, tangerines, oroblancos, etc) pour white vinegar until it covers the peels, put the lid on tight....and I let the peels pickle for 6 weeks (or there about)! After 6 weeks, I strain the liquid as I pour it into an empty spray bottle--stopping at about 3/4ths full each bottle. I then add 1/2 cup liquid Castile soap and 20 drops of lemon/orange/grapefruit oil. It's a great kitchen cleaner. Cuts through the grease. Totally love it!
